  Klamath National Forest Hiking

Happy camp is surrounded by the Klamath National Forest.  We have many different hiking trails in our area ranging from simple 1 hour hikes to multi day hikes (including the world famous PCT - Pacific Crest Trail.)

Listed below are some day hikes on well marked trails in the Happy Camp area.

Fall is one of the most scenic times in the KNF - The falls colors here are as spectacular as back east!  Spring has comfortable day hiking - everything is green - but is subject to rain showers.

Ask for direction maps at front desk of the resort to these hikes - We have hiked all of these trails.  Also see the USFS website for more hiking information.

  Town Trail   Hiked 10/06/2005
This short hike leads you back and forth on switch backs as you make your way up a mountain side overlooking the town of Happy Camp.  At the top you will find yourself over a thousand feet from the valley below with spectacular views of the town, river, and surrounding mountains.  The trail is about one mile long.  The parking is well marked.  Driving distance from the resort is apx 3 miles.

  Sulphur Springs   Hiked 10/07/2005
This trailhead is apx 15 miles from the resort up a very scenic  side canyon.  The road is paved and in excellent condition.  The trail starts at a campground.  At this campground is a Sulphur Spring which bubbles up from the ground and collects in a rock pool about the size of a 10 person hot tub.  The water temp is apx 70 degrees,  The beauty can not be matched as the pool is on the banks of a beautiful tributary of the Klamath.  The stream has waterfalls, large pools, and large granite boulders.  The hiking trail begins here and follows the creek for miles.  Choose your distance and stop at the creek for a picnic.  The waters are crystal clear and refreshing.  These waters come from the Marble Mountain Wilderness.  Trail is easy to moderate.

Hiking

Easy hike along Elk Creek from Sulphur Spring

Clear Creek Trail

Drive approxmately 7 miles south of Happy Camp and turn right on FS road 15N32.  Then drive 15 miles to the trailhead.  The last few miles is high above the creek.  Stop on the bridge and look down - Scarry!  The hike will be only about 1.5 miles down to the creek.  Great swimming holes in this deep canyon.

Clear Creek

This is a very deep canyon with very few access points to get down to the creek
